Frequently asked questions

What image formats can I extract colors from?

Any image your browser can open works, including JPG, PNG, WebP and GIF. The file is decoded locally and its pixels are sampled to build the palette.

Is my image uploaded to a server?

No. The image is read and processed entirely in your browser using a canvas. Nothing is uploaded, so your photos stay completely private.

How are the colors chosen?

The image is scaled down so its longest side is about 120px, then its pixels are grouped into color buckets and averaged. The most frequent buckets become your dominant HEX colors.

How many colors can I extract?

You can extract between 2 and 12 colors. Move the slider and the palette updates instantly without re-uploading the image.

How do I copy the HEX codes?

Click a single swatch to copy that HEX code, or use Copy all to copy every color as one comma-separated list you can paste into your design tool.

Does it export RGB or HSL values?

The tool outputs HEX color codes. You can copy any HEX value and convert it to RGB or HSL in your editor if needed.
