How to use
- Click "Start recording" and allow microphone access when your browser asks.
- Speak or play whatever you want to capture — a live timer shows the length.
- Click "Stop recording" when you're finished.
- Play back the clip, then download it as a WebM (Opus) audio file.
Frequently asked questions
Is my recording uploaded anywhere?
No. Recording happens 100% locally in your browser using the microphone and MediaRecorder APIs, and the file is saved straight to your device. Your audio is never sent to a server or stored anywhere online.
What audio format does it save?
Recordings are saved as WebM (Opus) by default, which plays in modern browsers. Depending on your browser, the clip may instead be saved as OGG or M4A. If you need an MP3, run the file through our Audio Converter afterwards.
Why won't recording start?
Your browser needs microphone permission. If you blocked it or no microphone is connected, recording can't begin — check the site permissions in your browser and make sure a mic is available, then try again.
Is there a time limit or file size limit?
There's no fixed limit, but very long recordings use more memory because the audio is held in your browser until you download it. For long sessions, record in shorter segments.
Do I need to install an app or sign up?
No. This voice recorder runs entirely in your browser with no download, no installation and no account. Just open the page and start recording.
Does it reduce background noise?
Yes. Recording requests your microphone with echo cancellation and noise suppression enabled, so voices come through clearer. Actual results depend on your browser and microphone.
