Frequently asked questions
What kinds of files can I bulk rename?
Any file type. The tool renames files by their name only and never inspects or changes the contents, so images (JPG, PNG, WebP), documents (PDF), audio, video, CSV or any other format all work the same way.
Why are the renamed files delivered as a ZIP?
Browsers can't rename files directly on your disk for security reasons, so the renamed copies are bundled into a single ZIP you can download and unzip. Everything is packed locally in your browser — nothing is uploaded.
How does sequential numbering work?
Turn on sequential numbering, then set a start number and how many digits to pad to (up to 10). Put the {n} placeholder anywhere in the name to control where the number appears, or leave it out and the number is added to the end.
What if two files end up with the same new name?
Name collisions are detected automatically, and a (2), (3) and so on is inserted before the extension so every file in the ZIP keeps a unique name and nothing gets overwritten.
Does renaming change the file extension or contents?
No. The extension is kept intact and only the base name is changed, so a prefix, suffix, numbering or case change never affects the file's data — just its name.
Are my files uploaded anywhere?
No. All renaming and zipping happen entirely in your browser using local JavaScript, so your files never leave your device and are never sent to a server.
