How to reduce video file size for email, Discord and the web
2026-07-01
"This file is too large" — email caps at 25 MB, Discord at a few MB on free tiers, and forms have their own limits. You can shrink a video to fit without uploading it to a sketchy compression site.
Compress to an exact size
Use Compress Video to Size, enter a target in MB (say 8 for Discord or 25 for email), and it calculates the right bitrate to land close to that size. Everything runs locally with ffmpeg.wasm.
Or compress by quality
If you just want a lighter file, Compress Video lets you pick a quality level. To cut size further, drop the resolution with Resize Video — 1080p to 720p roughly halves the size.
Trim what you don't need
The cheapest way to shrink a video is to make it shorter: Trim Video removes the dead air at the start and end. Posting to social? Convert for Reels & TikTok reframes and re-encodes in one step.
Tips
- Resolution has the biggest impact on size — halving the width and height cuts pixels to a quarter.
- Single-pass bitrate targeting is approximate; the result lands close to, not exactly on, the number.
- Your video is processed in your browser and never uploaded.
