How to use
- Drop a video file or click to select one (any video format your browser can read).
- Enter the target file size in MB β the default is 8, but you can set any value from 1 MB up.
- Click Compress and wait while the engine reads the duration and re-encodes your video.
- Download your compressed MP4, ready to share or upload.
Frequently asked questions
What video formats can I compress?
You can load any video your browser recognizes β MP4, MOV, WebM, MKV, AVI and more. Whatever you upload, the compressed result is always saved as an MP4 for maximum compatibility.
Is my video uploaded to a server?
No. Everything runs 100% locally in your browser using ffmpeg.wasm, so your video is never uploaded and never leaves your device. It is completely private.
Will the output be exactly the size I asked for?
Not exactly. The tool uses single-pass bitrate targeting, which is approximate, so the result lands close to but not precisely on the target. If you have a hard limit, pick a slightly lower target for headroom.
Why is the first run slow to start?
On the first run the tool downloads the ffmpeg engine (about 30 MB). It is cached afterward, so later compressions start instantly and work offline.
What format and quality is the output?
The compressed video is saved as an MP4 with H.264 video and 128k AAC audio, which plays in virtually every modern player, browser, and app. Quality scales with your target size β a bigger MB budget keeps more detail.
Is there a file size or length limit?
There is no fixed upload limit because nothing is uploaded, but very large or long videos take more time and memory to re-encode in the browser. The minimum target you can set is 1 MB.
