Frequently asked questions

Is my webcam recording uploaded anywhere?

No. Recording happens 100% locally in your browser using the getUserMedia and MediaRecorder APIs, and the file is saved straight to your device. Your camera feed and the finished video are never sent to a server or stored online.

Can I record my voice along with the video?

Yes. Keep “Include microphone” ticked to capture audio together with the video. Untick it to record silent, video-only footage. Your browser will ask permission for the camera and, if enabled, the microphone.

What video format and quality do I get?

Recordings are saved as WebM (VP9 or VP8 video with Opus audio), captured at up to 1280×720 (720p), which plays in modern browsers and most players. If you need MP4, run the WebM file through our Video Converter afterwards.

Why doesn’t the recorder work in my browser?

Webcam recording relies on the MediaRecorder API, and support varies by browser. It works best in the latest Chrome, Edge and Firefox on desktop. Safari support is limited and may not produce WebM, so try a Chromium-based browser if recording fails.

Is there a time or file-size limit?

There’s no fixed limit, but longer recordings use more memory because the video is held in your browser until you download it. For very long sessions, record in shorter segments to keep things smooth.

The screen says camera access was denied — what do I do?

That means the browser permission prompt was dismissed or blocked. Click Start again and choose Allow, and make sure no other app is using the camera. On some systems you may also need to grant camera access in your OS privacy settings.
