Frequently asked questions
How do I add page numbers to a PDF for free?
Select your PDF, pick a position, format, start number and font size, then click Apply. The tool stamps a number on every page and gives you a downloadable numbered PDF β free, with no watermark and no sign-up.
Is my PDF uploaded to a server?
No. The entire process runs 100% in your browser using JavaScript. Your PDF never leaves your device and is never uploaded, so your document stays completely private.
Where can I place the page numbers?
You can choose from six positions: bottom-center, bottom-right, bottom-left, top-center, top-right and top-left. A fixed 24-point margin keeps the numbers neatly inside the page edge.
What number formats are supported?
Four formats are available: plain "n", "n / total", "Page n", and "Page n of total". Pick the one that best fits your document.
Can I start numbering from a specific number?
Yes. Set the start number to any value (0 or higher). For example, starting at 1 numbers the first page 1, and the total shown in "n of total" formats adjusts to match your starting point.
Can I change the font, color or size of the numbers?
You can set the font size between 6 and 72 points. Numbers are drawn in the standard Helvetica font in black; the font family and color are fixed and cannot be changed.
